This is a comparison of two products that care of ticks and fleas. We will be adding to the list of comparisons as time goes on.
What do we favor ? the brown dog tick is around these here parts so Bravecto would be our choice. It also lasts 12 weeks which is important in this area of the country and the state of Wisconsin. If the dog travels during the summer than protection from a wider range of ticks species would serve an important purpose.
Is it good to have something in the system that long?
Yes - because it provides sustained protection against some very serious and potentially life threatening diseases. With increased activity and dogs that run in tick areas it is important to have sustainable tick protection for your pet.
Both products are in the same family of insecticides that block neurological pathways in the flea and tick. Mammals have different sensitivity at the GABA neuron receptor so the chemical does not affect the dog. For the insect the chemical is toxic by blocking the neurological pathway at the GABA receptor.
However - It should be used with caution in a dog with seizures - label warning.
Toxicity has not been documented from this product. However there is a caution for tiny dogs and puppies however.
No- it is always better to be chemical free even if the product deemed safe. The long term effects are not know at this time but they anticipate no problems with this product.
Nexgard - dogs who are exposed to ticks on a sometimes basis. ie. weekend warriors, vacation dogs, weekend cabin dogs
Bravecto - dogs who are exposed to ticks day in and day out ie hunting dogs, farm dogs, hiking dogs
******* this is the opinion of Marila Veterinary Clinic, located in tick central, depending on your own environment, your own pet, and what your own veterinarian suggests for your pet, this opinion may differ. Your pet's veterinarian knows your pet best, knows your situation, and if there are contraindications for the above.
*****This combination maybe different from other combinations for the Spray. This does not mean the other combinations are not useful , it means this combination was used and was helpful. Updates to the use on this site are constant but the older combinations are just as valid. *****

Peppermint
Heat stroke is a possibility in the summer months. If consumption of water or access to water is not ideal the body can be overheated sooner than expected. Peppermint is an oil that can cool the body.
-Place on the skin 50% diluted
-Place in cool water and apply topically
-Place a couple of drops on the gums diluted
-Place in palm of hand and allow pet to lick
-Place inbetween the pads of feet or on ear pinnas
The main objective is to cool the pet down to avoid organ shutdown. This is one additional way that cooling can be effective. Other means must also be used. This is just one tool that is available to achieve this goal.
