DATA ON THE MOST EFFECTIVE OILS FOR INFECTIONS:
Oh no, its infected…..Essential oils and infections in the family pet. The family pet is exposed to the same infectious agents we are. Their immune system must be able to resist the onslaught of exposure to resistant bacteria and viruses in the environment. Since many are closer to the ground than we are they are often exposed to many more parasites and fungal elements as well. The health of their immune system is important. Being able to fight disease is needed to prevent them from getting ill and from passing on agents to their owners. The world is full of infectious agents that are no longer sensitive to many conventional antibiotics. The indiscriminate use of antibiotics has lead to a problem of an inability to treat people and pets.Essential oils are natures answer to this problem. The uses of essential oils for infections of various types have all but been forgotten. Although popular years ago before the advent of antibiotics, they have been forgotten when more convenient ways to deal with infectious agents came along. Recently the essential oils are being revisited with positive results.
The family pet can use the essential oils much the same way as their owners can.
One of the first ways the oils benefit the pet is building the immune system. Often the body has been missing Key elements to maintain its health. The immune system is lacking in strength which in turn weakens resistance. The pet is not healthy.
Supplements with essential oils included in them are an easy option to help boost the immunity and provide a strong resistance. Although a lot of the supplements were made for the owner as far as dose, with some simple modification of the amounts, the same products can be used for the whole family. This makes it convenient and easy for the pet owner.Supplements used for immunity in the Pet:
Immune Tune
Immune Pro
Inner Defense
The dose that is used is based on the pet’s size. Usually it is not difficult even in the smallest pet. By using such things as Agave for a sweetener and using a measuring spoon or small Childs dosing syringe the amount can be attained. The supplement range is usually wide enough so small increases or decreases need not cause alarm.
Essential oils are used for infections in humans. Many of the same oils are used in pets as well. Essential oils in research have been shown to kill infectious agents better than conventional therapy. This includes bacteria, viruses, fungus, and parasites both internal and external. When there is resistance by infectious agents, the agents take over and cause overwhelming life threatening illness. The body is stressed, increased weakness develops to further infection, and the end result can be high morbidity or mortality. By using the essential oils we have another avenue to use. Use should be discriminate however. The oil should be chosen due to its unique qualities for eliminating the infectious agent. Just as antibiotics are chosen for the agents sensitivity to the particular kind of medication so should the oil. Luckily the essential oil varieties are endless considering the abundance of plant life. New oils are discovered and the special properties they have to deal with a variety of problems seem unrestricted. Essential oils used in the pet:R.C.
Raven
Thieves
Immunopower
Exodus II
Thyme
Oregano
Melrose
Eucalyptus (all varieties)
Lavender
Frankincense
MelaLeuca (all varieties)
Copaiba
Dilution of the essential oils is patient dependent and oil dependent.
If an essential oil is diluted for the pet owner then the oil is diluted for the pet as well. Dilution is based on size and species of pet. The only dilution media used is pure carrier oil. Case examples:
10 year old DSH with resistant fungal infection in the toe. Chronic and nonresponsive to conventional treatment and surgery. Use a combination of Thieves, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Thyme, and Oregano. Diluted with carrier oil. Applied to area twice a day with moist warm compress. Used for 2 month and then once per week. Gave Immune Defense by mouth at 0.2 cc daily; Standard process immune support; Viralys; the cat had Herpes Keratitis and so the immune support addressed this issue. Assume the stress from the herpes predisposed to the opportunistic fungal toe infection.7 year old DLH had chronic sinusitis related to dental issues. After dental the area was still infected. Drainage was seen. The essential oils of R.C., Raven, and M-Grain were used. The oils were applied dilute to the frontal sinus. The capsules of immune defense were used also. After a week the sinus cleared.
In some cases the infections were life threatening and the strongest combination of essential oils were used. There were no toxic effects. These are cats which were not healthy yet with the essential oils used the conditions resolved and the cats did well. Essential oils are not toxic to cats or other pets if they are pure and diluted properly. .
Vitality Essential Oil Culinary Collection - Use in Pets - Is it Safe - Benefits???
Includes:
5-ml essential oils
Thyme Vitality - this oil can be used internally (so can the original thyme) – Useful for the tick borne diseases that are so common during the spring, summer, and fall. Giving it internally also has the advantage of it being distributed to the body as a whole and assisting tick and flea control. Use with Repel Aroma with added oils with the Thyme vitality would be a good combination.
Basil Vitality - a good repellant, a good oil for infections as well especially those with upper respiratory components.
Rosemary Vitality - overall good oil to use during tick season especially if using conventional flea-tick as an anti-toxic for the liver, useful to repel the ticks, useful for those pets who have allergy issues and lose hair by helping increase the hair vitality and regrowth.
Oregano Vitality- another flea and tick repellant assist that can be given orally with the advantage of it being distributed through the whole body. If place on the tick itself it kills the tick and assists in the prevention of tick borne disease transmission.
Black Pepper Vitality - a good pain reliever and is especially helpful for the gastrointestinal tract with inflammation in specific cases.
Cinnamon Bark Vitality - infections of any kind be it parasite, bacteria, virus, fungal. Especially useful for internal parasites and parvo/panleukopenia.
Peppermint Vitality- cooling oil for heat exhaustion, pain, and gastrointestinal upset (Levitra). If used externally it has a profound cooling effect for the overheated pet.
Ginger Vitality- this oil is very good for the garbage toxic dog or cat. It settles the stomach and is gentle enough for this use. It can be added to the water for continued stomach upset
Lemon Vitality – for the older dog or cat to brighten them up without toxic side effects. It also helps the young cat or dog focus on behavior changes that are needed. It is also one of the oil taken internally for support of cancer therapy.
Lime Vitality - another support oil for cancer. Along with lemon, the two are quite a powerful combination in the assistance of cancer protocols already in place. Useful for those cats who have Herpes as a chronic condition . It is easy to diffuse or add to the diet if diluted . Dilute , Dilute because cats do hyper salivate if they taste it. NOT because it is toxic but the taste is so strong.
These are some suggestions of how this kit maybe used for more than culinary reasons. It is by no means complete or that the oils are limited to just these uses in the pet. Owners always want to know if oils can be used for their family member. This is to provide help to select this kit as an option and the many uses beside for food or beverage use.

Other KITS that are helpful in taking care of the Family Pet
GOLDEN TOUCH 1 ---The oils contained in the kit Include: R.C. , Raven, Thieves, Endoflex, Juvaflex, Melrose, and DiGize
The oils cover respiratory, gastrointestinal-liver, endocrine, infectious conditions.
KIDS SCENTS COLLECTION -- Just as the Animal Scents collection is diverse so is this group of oils. It covers the range of gastrointestinal, respiratory, calming, congnitive, pain, and repellant for insects. If the animal scents kit is out of stock this would be a viable alternative.
Freedom Sleep and Release --- This combination is useful for stress conditions. It helps the body get over the trauma of life events. This would be a good kit for rescue pets, canine officers, canine troops, search/rescue canines, and the like. The trauma they face effects them much as any human in the line of duty or those coming from a traumatic situation.
Feelings Kit - many of the oils here are helpful for stress, rescue pets, new humans/babies/pets, new home, training professionally or for fun, new pups, new cats, litter box problems, excessive licking, retraining of the litter box, and the list is endless. Each oil has unique components that can address issues of stress.
Really ESSENTIAL Essential Oils
There are some essential oils that are recommended over and over due to the diversity of the oil use in common conditions that most pets encounter.
This list is not conclusive and will be added to as time goes on.
Marila Veterinary clinics suggested for essential oils to have on hand:
THIEVES - infections, dental
PANAWAY - bone pain, heat stroke
RELIEVE IT - soft tissue pain
COPAIBA OR EVERGREEN ESSENCE- steroid
EXODUS II OR CASSIA- cox 2 inhibitor
PURIFICATION - parasites, odors
CITRUS FRESH - fatty masses
AWAKEN OR FORGIVENESS - tumors and growths
AROMA SIEZ- muscle pain
JUVAFLEX - liver, kidney
R.C.- respiratory, bladder
PEACE & CALMING stress
MELROSE - replace thieves /lavender combination
there will be additions to the list as time goes on
What about the Animal Scents collection?
Good choice but sometimes it is out of stock and new members may not have the ability to get the kit right away. A lot of times owners have oils that are used for personal use. The animal care kit is very specific and prepared for pets. The above oils are "everyone oils" and more readily available and less likely to be out of stock at any given moment.
Convention YL 2015 Products: How to use the new products
Black Spruce Kit - Spruce essential oil is anti-pruritic in its properties. The essential water being in the class of a Hydrosol will open up more avenues of use. The essential water, while still potent in its own right, has the advantage of being for more dilute. The water can be used on the smallest pets and those who are young or geriatric. Concern for the oil being too much for the pet has been almost eliminated. The dilution factor of it being an essential water makes it safe. Use in exotics/birds with skin issues that are pruritic is possible. It has opened the door for many uses. Copaiba is the other " go to" oil for skin issues that are causing itching. This is another oil to add to this list and it will make this a vacluable oil to have on hand.
Light the Fire - The mixture of essential oils in this blend would helpful for gastrointestinal conditions. It has nutmeg, ocetea addressing the upset that can occur with gastrointestinal conditions. Used separately these two oils are used with diarrhea and vomiting. Mastrante and Lemon provide oils that are high in anti-tumor properties. Chronic bowel conditions can lead to changes in the cellular makeup of the lining. These oils are proactive in maintaining health at the cell level. During any gastrointestinal flare up the cells of the tract are in rapid division phase. To help with the health of the system these oils may benefit during this rapid renewal of the lining of the bowel. The Black Spruce and Cassia would address the inflammation and pain of spasms during the upset. Spruce is steroid like and Cassia is COX2 like in their actions. The pain that occurs with gastrointestinal gas, low motility of the bowel, and non absorption of nutrients can result in the pet becoming more debilitated. Addressing these issues early results in a better long term outcome. It is still mandatory that the pet be seen by a veterinarian for further testing so that the right course of treatment be undertaken. Gastrointestinal issues can be simple or complex. A diagnosis is important for the success of any treatment. This is an oil that will used at Marila Veterinary Clinic to assist in overall health of the pet.
These two essential oils are high in d-Limonene. Using the two oils together would be a powerful combination. Either rotating them or combining them would be another combination that would address a variety of issues in the old pet as well as behavioral issues in the young pet. Combining the oils with others for added effect would be a powerful addition to the many other oils by YL that are also high in d-Limonene.

Lick granuloma Insect and spider bites
Hot spot Use in between conventional medication
Osteoarthritis Hyperesthesia syndrome in cat
Cystitis Heat stroke (NOT the only treatment)
Follow up with a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis of the cause is important. Without a proper evaluation of the cause this product is only being used as a temporary fix.
Adding other oils such as mountain savory, clove, copaiba, spruce, pine, cassia
Calming oils are found in this product as well. This is just an additional benefit.
Dermatologic conditons are common with pets. Use of these products are very similar to use in the human. The bath salts provide a healthy way to soak areas of concern such as hot spots, granulomas, joints, allergic hot skin, etc. By adding some additonal oils the bath can altered to address the immediate concern. This is a product that would be good for the chronic skin pet to take advantage of.
If a pet does not like Fidovite/Catbiotic - this is a consideration. There are many conditions that contribute to debilitation of the pet.
Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel disease, Renal disease, Liver disease, rough start for kitten or puppy, geriatric pet , etc.
Amount is size dependant and would have to be based on the condition. A proper diagnosis is important to evaluate how best to use this supplement.
DO NOT use without a diagnosis to determine if this is appropriate.
PEACE & CALMING 1 = USE FOR GENERAL CALMING- YOUNG PETS
PEACE & CALMING 2 =USE FOR CALMING WITH PAIN - OLDER PETS
VALOR 1 = RESCUE PETS - YOUNGER PETS
VALOR 2 = RESCUE PETS - OLDER PETS
WHY? Based on the oils in each of the blends the second version has issues such inflammation and pain also addressed. It does not mean they can not be used as needed in any pet. It all depends on what resonates with the individual pet as it does with humans. It is the essential oil that is needed for the body at that time. This can change as time goes on and conditions change.
What about Ningxa Red and Ningxa Wolfberries ? Are they safe for the family Pet???
Yes and Yes
The drink is the strongest for anti-oxidant potential. All the berries in the drink are safe. At Marila Veterinary clinic we encourage the use of Ningxa Red for debilitated, aged, and recovering pets.
Amounts:
Feline - 1/4 oz per day
Small canine - 1/2-1 oz per day
Large canine - 2 oz per day
What if my pet does not drink Ningxa Red but will drink the other drinks?
As long as there is no ingredient in the other drink that would be toxic it should be ok. Pets have different taste preferences as do humans. Marila Veterinary Clinic can not vouch for the other drinks as far as safe use in pets and amounts.
Another antioxidant that is recommended is Longevity. The capsule is helpful to neutralize the fat-based oxidants. Ningxa Red addresses the water based oxidants. The two products used together take care of most oxidants.
Use:
Large canine 1 capsule per day
Smaller canine (use Longevity essential oil instead) 2 drops/gel capsule per day
Feline (use Longevity essential oil ) 1 drop / gel capsule once per day
Thieves is in a dish soap and in a laundry detergent form now. Theives is the main cleaner we use at Marila Veterinary Clinic. We take care of rescue cats. Upper respiratory infections are a given for this population. Thieves has kept the contagious viruses under control. Rarely, if ever, do the house cats come down with any respiratory conditions. Granted the house cats may have a healthy immune system however the stress of new cats coming and going would make them occasionally susceptible. This is not the case in that they have had only a mild case of sneezing in the past five years. This has not been the case in other rescues or clinics that I have worked at over the years. Those clinics used conventional means of control. Although they strived to eliminate the contagious viruses they still were able to break through and infect the house cats with a significant upper respiratory infection. Marila Veterinary Clinic would recommend Thieves in all its product forms to help keep the pet family healthy. With the new products, it will make it easy to wash the bowls and kennels, launder the blankets and pillows, and eliminate infectious agents more easily. By adding this to the available options to maintain pet health, the family pet will have a better quality of life.
Digestion supplements Reccomendations :
Digest & Cleanse - used for gastrointestinal problems when cleansing is needed.
Large canine 1 capsule 1-2 times per day
Small canine 1/2 - 1 capsule per day
The supplements below assist in digestion depending on the condition. Not all the supplements are appropriate. This is why a diagnosis is important. Using enzymes that are not needed is wasting money. Although many of the supplements are used together selecting the one or two that solve the problem is the most effective.

Young Living Roll-ons:
How the clinic using these in patient care -
Breathe Again - this is one of the most important essential oil combinations for respiratory care. Respiratory conditions are usually chronic and ongoing. The use of the essential oils can often maintain a more healthy respiratory tract for the pet. The oils are very strongly anti-infectious and will help maintain the pet's health. Personal clinical experience - felines and canines have less bouts of respiratory flare ups of the chronic bronchitis / URT infections and the flare ups are less severe and resolve quicker. This is another tool that can be used for respiratory health.
Stress Away
Rutalvala
Valor
Tranquil- All three of these are used for stress relief in the cat and dog. They are used interchangeably depending on the pet's stage of stress , trauma, or conditioning. Each pet has a different body chemistry and so different oils have more or less effect on them in a given situation. Essential oils do not have the toxic effects on the body as do some medications. The oils can modify the behavior by their chemical makeup. They are safe to use with other methods of behavior modification. Sometimes all the pet needs is the ability to relax enough so training can be used to relieve stress. The roll-ons can be used from puppy to adulthood, can used for storms, loud noises, or unusual noises that cause fear, are helpful when used for grief due to loss of companion or family member, assist in rescue pets when they are new to a shelter or home, for introduction of new pet, baby, or when someone leaves, for boarding to help encouraging eating during this time. The roll-ons are often used with other means of care as well as part of complete care program. The ease of use is the best part of the roll-ons. Stress-away is the first one to start with. It provides for calm but does not result in a tired feel. Valor is good for those pets who must overcome obstacles be it emotional or physical. It can be combined with other roll-ons or oils. Rutavala is the strongest combination and has been know to put some pets to sleep with the profound calming. It is especially helpful to calm pets during boarding, surgical recovery , separation, and storms.
***the oils have NOT been evaluated by the FDA, so the claims above are my opinion and clinical experience. They are NOT based on FDA findings or tests. Conventional, other alternative therapies, nutrition, and other methods are needed for complete resolution of problems in the pet. Get a proper diagnosis, follow up care/visits, and combine treatments. Oils are NOT a form of treatment (FDA) . They are a natural way to address concerns arising in the pet. The essential oils do NOT cure the health problem(FDA) . ****

Soapbox moment for essential oil use
This by NO MEANS a complete list or does it serve to provide the only therapy used. These suggestions are to be used with other treatments - conventional/alternative. DIAGNOSIS, TESTING, PHYSICAL EXAM, FOLLOWUP are mandatory to treat veterinary conditions. This website is not to be used to skip going to the veterinary clinic of your choice. Your pet's veterinarian, if it is not Marila Veterinary Clinic, knows the pet and is the best one to determine the treatment course. This website is to assist in other methods of care and support the treatment already in place. ************
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I will post new suggestions for combinations of essential oils often. As more become available I will change the reccomendations of a "kit" to put together. This means that there are more alternatives and options to use. The previous postings are still valid and helpful. Sometimes the oils are out of stock thus the website is constantly updating to help out the pet owners to achieve the goal of the best care for their pet.

What is meant by SEED To SEAL?
Marila Veterinary clinic uses pure essential oils of the highest quality. Even though essential oils can not be designated Therapeutic Grade the term is used to define the oils as the purest there is. The oil in the bottle is the oil in the bottle. There are no fillers, no extenders, no other stuff in the bottle. This is reason Marila Veterinary Clinic has had many successful outcomes in the cases we have used the essential oils exclusively or in conjunction with other treatment

Areas to Apply Essential Oils on Animals:
For non-ungulate animals (not having hooves) such as dogs or cats, oils (neat or diluted) can be applied to paws for faster absorption.
For hoofed animals, sprinkle a few drops on the spine or flanks and massage them in. Also apply on the gums, tongue, or underneath the top lip; also apply on the frog and cornet bands of hooves. These are all good locations for oils to be applied to cows, horses, etc. (all animals with hooves). Oils can also be applied to auricular points of the ears.
How to Administer Essential Oils - Internally:
For internal use (ingestion), essential oils can be put into a capsule and mixed with the feed. A few drops could be added to gravy on food when administering to dogs or cats.
On large animals, the animal's bottom lip can be pulled out and (for example, in the case of a horse) 10 or 15 drops of oil put in. The animal will feel the effect quickly because capillaries in the lip will carry the oil into bloodstream immediately.
For a large dog, 1 to 3 drops is sufficient. When treating animals with essential oils internally, make certain the oils used are pure and free of chemicals, solvents, and adulterants. Always seek the advice of a qualified veterinarian before allowing the animals to ingest essential oils.
Other Helpful Tips:
• When treating large animals for viral or bacterial infection, arthritis, or bone injury, generally use the same oils and protocol recommended for humans.
• For applying to large open wounds or hard to reach areas, it helps to put the oils in a spray bottle dilute with vegetable oil (olive) and spray them directly on location.
• After an oil application to an open wound, cover the wound with Animal Scents Ointment to seal it and protect it from further infection. The ointment will also pre vent the essential oils from evaporating.
• There is no right or wrong way to apply essential oils. Every animal is a little different. Use common sense and good judgment as you experiment with different methods. Observe carefully how the animal responds to the treatment.
• Take special care not to get essential oils in the animal's eyes.
• Quality protein is vitally important to promote healing, which makes the use of organic feed essential. Unfortunately many commercial feeds contain bovine byproducts that have high risk for BSE disease and make them unfit for animal care. Avoid these at all costs. Enzymes are also essential to maximize digestion and protein assimilation
